FEATHERSTON

WOMEN’S WAR SERVICE MAKING OF NETS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Those women and girls in Featherston who have been wishing to do something to help the soldiers, have al last found an outlet for their energies. The Women's War Service Auxiliary got permission from Mr McKenzie a week ago to use the premises of the old Trading Company for making camouflage nets. On Monday morning Mr R. Skipage put up four racks, and in the afternoon Mrs Skipage, with a willingband of workers, started making four nets, which are now nearly completed. Workers go in at any time that suits them, but some girls have worked all day. even on New Year’s Day, from 9 o’clock in the morning until 5 o’clock at night. When it is remembered how urgently these nets are required by the army, it will be seen that all concerned are to be congratulated on the progress made. The spinning of wool from fleeces into skeins ready for knitting has also received considerable attention, and the town should soon have an expert band of spinners. With all this work to be done, as well as that which is beingcarried out by the Red Cross Society, there is no excuse for any woman in Featherston to be idle, and, be it said to their credit, it is very evident that they are not looking for excuses for not •‘doing their bit.” CROQUET HANUI CLUB.
