MALOYAROSLAVETS TAKEN BY RUSSIANS MORE HEADWAY ON FRONT WEST OF MOSCOW. ATTEMPTED ENEMY STAND DEFEATED. LONDON, January 2. The recapture of Maloyaroslavets, 80 miles south-west of Moscow, is reported by the Russians. A number of others inhabited places have also been retaken. An enemy attempt to consolidate new positions was successfully foiled. Soviet advance guards are believed to be only a few miles from Mojaisk. An important railway junction eastwards of Mojaisk was captured in the course of a ten day battle, in which the Germans lost 1,690 killed, including a general.
