SAVING PETROL
PROPOSALS IN BRITAIN RESTRICTION OF DELIVERY SERVICES. 1 MANY VANS TO DISAPPEAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, Noon.) LONDON. January 2. • Many delivery vans will disappear from the roads of Britain under a joint scheme of three Government Departments to reduce retail deliveries to customers to save petrol. The grocer probably will call only once a week and the butcher and greengrocer twice. Shops may pool vehicles and reduce their delivery areas. Shoppers will be asked to carry purchases home. A reduction of 25 per cent of the fuel at present used by vans will save ten million gallons a year.
