SANE POLICY
REGARDING EMPLOYMENT OF ALIENS ADVOCATED BY PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT. STEPS TO SPLIT VITAL WAR INDUSTRIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 1.0 p.m.) WASHINGTON, January 2. At his Press conference President Roosevelt urged all employers to adopt a sane policy regarding the employment of aliens and foreign-born citizens. Mr Roosevelt expressed deep concern at reports that an increasing number of employers were discharging alien and foreign-born workers. The President said it was a serious matter. It was one thing to safeguard industry, particularly defence industry, from sabotage, but another to throw out workers who might be honest, loyal and sincerely patriotic. Mr Roosevelt disclosed that the question of moving aeroplane and other war industries from vulnerable coastal points into the interior was receiving new consideration. He indicated that production facilities would be split and duplicated, so that an entire plant could not be destroyed in a single raid.
