The “New York Times,” in an editorial, warns Americans to view the world conflict with more sense of proportion. “Our direct and poignant concern for the Pacific war theatre,” it observes, “should not blind us to the fact that more far-sighted observers still view Europe as the pivotal battleground. Particularly the Rus-sian-German front must at -present be recognised as the central battle line.”
