A Chinese military spokesman said it looked as if the Japanese were now launching a general offensive against China. “We welcome it,” he added. “This will enable us to dissipate the enemy’s' strength. Both sides must suffer, but the Japanese are at a disadvantage because they cannot afford to lose as much manpower as China-.”
