WAR ADVENTURE

ATTEMPT TO CAPTURE ROMMEL MADE BY COMMANDO PARTY. ATTACK ON HEADQUARTERS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, December 31. An amazing story of how a party of 30 commandos landed 200 miles behind the enemy lines in Libya and attempted to capture General Rommel has just been revealed. The commandos were under the command of Colonel Keyes, a son of Admiral Sir Roger Keyes. The Cairo correspondent of the British United Press reports that commandos, hoping to catch Rommel, arrived at his headquarters three days before Genera' Auchinleck opened his offensive. Rommel was absent, but the commandos shot their way through the front door, killing German staff, officers. They attacked others upstairs. Colonel Keyes, mortally wounded, died outside Rommel’s headquarters. Surviving members of the party returned after escaping an intensive enemy hunt and enduring great hardship.s
