AIR ATTACKS ON ENEMY NAVAL BASES FIERCE CONFLICT OVER BREST. THREE RAIDERS BROUGHT DOWN IN BRITAIN. ' LONDON, December 30. Last night’s target for our Air Force was La Pallice, on the Bay of Biscay. Coastal Command aircraft made an attack on enemy shipping. All our planes returned safely. There was vigorous enemy opposition and a shell which burst inside one of our bombers severely wounded the observer. Supported by the wireless operator, he kept the pilot supplied with information during the return flight. In raids on this country last night, three enemy bombers were brought down. It is learnt in London that in daylight today Halifax bombers escorted by fighters, attacked the German occupied naval base of Brest. The planes reached their objectives in the face of fierce opposition. Seven German fighters were destroyed. We lost two bombers and three fighters.
