An Excellent Response. Captain Raymond Lee. of the Home Guard Area Office, expressed his appreciation this morning of the splendid response made by the young women of Masterton to an appeal in yesterday’s “Times-Age” for four volunteer workers to carry out indexing work for the Home Guard. Captain Lee said that the number of young women who volunteered was a tribute to their community spirit.

State Houses Empty. Approximately 120 State houses, mostly at, Orakei, are untenanted because they cannot be supplied with electric power, states an Auckland telegram. In most cases the tenants are anxiously waiting to enter. The Auckland Electric Power Board, through the courtesy of the Christchurch municipal departmenrt, has borrowed a quantity of cable to connect up the majority of the completed houses. The shipment left Canterbury three weeks ago, but is still awaited in Auckland.
