OUT IN FORCE
BRITISH BOMBERS OVER RHINELAND ARTIFICIAL RUBBER WORKS BLASTED. NAVAL BASES & OTHER TARGETS GET THEIR SHARE. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, December 29. Emden, Wilhelmshaven and industrial targets in the Rhineland were heavily bombed by strong forces of the R.A.F. last night. One of the industrial establishments attacked was the big chemical works where the costly rubber substitute, Buna, is manufactured. The planes picked up the factory in the moonlight and plane after plane dropped first incendiary bombs and then high explosives. An explosion of great violence followed, with flames leaping several hundred feet into the air. Fires raged in the remaining buildings and into this gigantic beacon our planes piled high-explosive bombs. Many fires were started, too, in Emden and Wilhelmshaven. The docks at Dunkirk and enemy aerodromes in Holland were also attacked. Seven of our bombers are missing.
