SIGN OF THE TIMES
HORSES & CYCLES INCREASE IN POPULARITY. RESULT OF PETROL RESTRICTIONS. 1 Petrol restrictions have had a pronounced effect on methods of travel and transport in the district. In Queen Street, Masterton, this is quite noticeable. The sight of horses being tethered to poles in the main street is now becoming an accepted sign of the times. Several local- business houses are using horse-drawn transport. The increased number of cycles on the roads is also apparent. Greater commercial use, too, is being made of cycles to draw trailers for business deliveries, while in many instances the use of a basket in front of the cycle is being extended to other businesses besides butchers. The cycle racks in Queen Street made a timely appearance and arc being placed to good use. Nevertheless many private cars are still to be seen in Queen Street during the day. Many members of the public are commenting on the continued appearance of private cars in the streets, / the view being held by many people that the unwarranted use of cars in the present crisis is an unpatriotic action.
