DECLINE AT HOLIDAY MEETINGS

A decline of £82,000 is shown in the totalisator betting for the seven galloping and trotting meetings held . so far throughout the Dominion during the period between Christmas and New Year. Last year 11 meetings were held in the same period, but four were abandoned this year for reasons arising out of war conditions. Declines are revealed in the totalisator figures for five of the seven meetings, but at one, the first day of the Auckland trots, a record turnover was established of £77,551, an increase of £2346 10s over last year, the attendance was 21,000, compared with 18,000. On the other hand, there has been a big decrease in the betting returns for the Auckland Racing Club’s meeting, two of the four days of which have already been held.
