GREYTOWN
SOCIAL GATHERING AIRMAN ENTERTAINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Greytown Citizens’ Committee held a social gathering and dance in the Odd Fellows’ Hall on Wednesday evening the guest of honour being Leading Aircraftman Terry Sugrue. The Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, conveyed the best wishes of the citizens to Leading Aircraftman Sugrue. Mr J. F. Thompson spoke on behalf of the Wairarapa Rugby Union, and expressed the hope that their guest’s career in the Air Force would be marked with the same success as his football activities.
Mr S. C. Shedden extended good wishes from the Returned Services’ Association.
The Mayoress (Mrs Horton) on behalf of the committee, presented Leading Aircraftman Sugrue with a fountain pen and diary. Mrs A. Johnson, on behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, made a presentation of woollen comforts to the guest. Personal Items. The many Wairarapa friends of Mr W. Gates, who was superintendent of the Grey town Volunteer Fire Brigade for 30 years, will regret to learn that he is at present seriously ill in the Dannevirke hospital. Mr Lyle Brabender, Wellington, is spending a few days with his parents, Mr and Mrs Brabender, West Street. Mr and Mrs Westwood,, of Eastbourne, were the guests of Mr and Mrs E. Haigh, Main Street, for the Christmas holidays. Miss Dulcie Haigh, of Petone, is home with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. Haigh, Main Street, for a few days. Misses- Eileen and Kathleen Barrett, of Wellington, are spending a holiday with their parents, Mr and Mrs Barrett, West Street. Mr and Mrs Max Maddison,- of Hastings, and Mr and Mrs V. Brazendale, of Lower Hutt, are the guests of Mr and Mrs A. Haigh, Humphries Street. Misses Betty and Joan Feast, of Wellington, are visiting their parents, Mr and Mrs J. Feast, Ahiakouka.
Miss Peggy Hawke, of Wellington, is spending a few days’ holiday with her mother, Mrs H. Hawke, Morison’s Bush.
Miss Dulcie Rees, Wellington, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs J. Rees, McMaster Street.
Misses E. and T. Best, Wellington, and Mr and Mrs D. Molesworth, Wellington, are spending a holiday with Mr and Mrs F. Best, Main Street. Mr and Mrs H. Wall, of Khandallah, are the guests of Mrs Sugrue, Belgrave Street.
Miss Margaret Eccles, Wellington, is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs Eccles, of McMaster Street. Miss Joyce Horton, Wellington, is staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. W. Horton, for a few weeks.
Miss Betty Sykes, Wellington, spent the Christmas holidays with her parents, Canon and Mrs Sykes, West St. Mrs A. Oakey, Taihape, is at present visiting Greytown.
TOWN HALL TONIGHT’S PROGRAMME. “The Mark of Zorro,” which will be shown tonight, with Linda Darnell, Tyronne Power and Basil Rathbone in the chief roles, is the story of a masked adventurer in the days of old California. (Approved for Universal Exhibition).
