(British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 12.55 p.m.) RUGBY, December 25

An official announcement by the Free French Headquarters in London on the Free French occupation of the French islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon, just south, of Newfoundland, states: “In answer to the wishes of the population, Admiral Muselier, commanding the Free French naval forces, proceeded to St. Pierre and Miguelon. and took possession of these islands in the name of the French. National Committee. He immediately organised a plebiscite which will take place today.”

Press messages from Washington, quoting the United States Government to the effect that Admiral Muselier’s action in St. Pierre and Miquelon islands was carried out without Ameican knowledge, have been noted in London, where official quarters were equally without information. Moreover it is believed that Admiral Muselier’s ships did not saij< to St. Pierre.
