CARTERTON

FIRST AID EXAMINATION RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following members of the Carterton W.S.A. Cycle Corps have been successful in passing the first aid examination held on December 8 and 9:— Misses Mabel Grant (honours), lisa Davidson, Verna Irwin, Marjory McPherson, Leith Knutson, Molly Dunn, Patsy Bredin, Marjory Stent, Heather Corlett, and Heather Gregor. ENGAGEMENT ROGERS—GOODIN. The engagement is announced of Joyce Victoria, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs B. H. Goodin, of Horsham Downs, Hamilton, and late of Carterton, to Private Horace John Rogers, son of Mrs M. Rogers of Horsham Downs. Personal Items. Mr Harry Humphries, of the Blind Institute, Auckland, has arrived in' Carterton to spend Christmas with his mother.

Captain and Mrs Ojala, of the Salvation Army, have received notice of their transfer to the Woodville- Pahiatua circuit. The new officers will be Adjutant Packer and a lieutenant to be appointed from the Training College. Word has been received by Mrs J. B. Brickell, of Kent Street, that her son, Pte. Jack Brickell, has been wounded in Libya.

Pte. W. Harris, only son of Mr and Mrs Harry Harris, formerly of Carterton and now >f Foxton, is among those killed in the Libyan campaign.

Car Parking. Between 7 o’clock and 10 o’clock tonight the parking of cars will not be allowed in the main thoroughfare or between Pembroke Street and Belvedere Street. The traffic officer and members of the Home Guard will have control of the streets. In Case of Emergency. Constable Williams desires to obtain recruits to assist the police to keep order in Carterton should a war contingency arise. Charge of Drunkenness. A first offender on a charge of drunkenness appeared at tfie Carterton S.M. Court this morning before Mr W. C. M. Sorensen, and was convicted. ‘

Bowling. On Friday a progressive pairs tournament will be held by members of the Carterton Bowling Club. Twentyseven entries have so far been received. Members are asked to provide a “plate” for afternoon tea. Church Service. ’ l Church of England services will bo held at St. Mark’s Church, Carterton, tomorrow. The preacher will be the Rev. J. A. Daglish. REGENT THEATRE PROGRAMMES FOR TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. Finally tonight, Maurice Maeterlink’s masterpiece in colour, “Blue Bird,” with Shirley Temple and Gale Sondergard. Also “Star- Dust,” with Linda Darnell and John Payne. Tomorrow, Christmas Day, “The Lady From Cheyenne.” She fought for a woman’s place in a world of men, with Loretta Young, Robert Preston, and Gladys George.
