As there will be a suspension of markets for three weeks because of the holidays and because of the ban placed on railway travelling there was a particularly large entry of fat stock at today’s Addington market A tat cattle entry of 943 head constituted a record' for the yards, and fat lambs numbered 4700. Recent values for fat stock were maintained. In the store sheep section there was little demand for ewes, and ewes and lambs, but wethers sold well. Poor conditioned two-tooth ewes from southern Marlborough made 17s 7d, the best offer for ewes and lambs being 12s lOd. Wethers were down by 2s to 2s 6d. best making 19s Id. The fat lambs entry sold freely. A line of 120 averaged 28s sd, best to 30s 4d. There was an animated demand by butchers for fat wethers, which were dearer by 2s a head. Ewes were Is to Is 6d dearer, and were higher than the export schedule. Best wethers made from 25s to 20s, good medium 22s to 24s 6d, and light down to 17s. Show ewes sold to 25s lOd, good prime 17s to 19s 6d, medium weight prime 14s to 16s 6d, light from 10s to 12s. Best beef made from 37s to 40s per IGOlb, medium to good 33s 6d to 36s 6d, and inferior down to 25s per 1001 b. Best steers made £l5 to £l9, good medium weights £l3 to £l4 10s, best heifers £l2 10s to £l5 2s 6d, and best cows £ll to £l4 10s.

Fat pigs included an exceptionally heavy penning of porkers which sold erratically, starting 2s to 3s better and finishing up 4s to 8s weaker. Values ranged from 32s 6d to 55s 6d, average per lb 6£d to 7;jd. Baconers were 5s to 7s cheaper. Prices ranged from 57s 6d to £3 19s 6d, average per lb sijd to 63 d.
