A passen’ger liner reached Singapore after an exciting journey from Hong Kong, bringing British evacuees from Shanghai and Hong Kong. The ship was first attacked five minutes after the captain had received a message informing him that war had broken out in the Far East. Japanese aircraft appeared and dived low, spattering the decks with bullets, but there were no casualties find the ship was not- damaged. Later on the same day there was a second raid, but by clevei manoeurvring the ship again escaped damage. She then continued unmolested to Singapore.
