MEETING OF BOROUGH COUNCIL HOSING OF LAWNS PROHIBITED. COUNCILLORS REPORT WATER WASTAGE, The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held last night. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, presided There were also present: Councillors W. White, A. D. Low, W. H. Judd, W. Kemp, G. D. Wilson, R. Russell, H. E. Gardner, A. T. Jackson, J. Ninnes, G. W. Morice and C. E. Grey. Mr Jordan extended a welcome to Councillor Russell and expressed the wish that he would continue to make good progress after his recent illness. “It was a most creditable effort,” observed Councillor Wilson, chairman of the Hall Committee, referring to the entertainment presented by the Masterton. Art Club which resulted in £l7 being raised for the Mayor’s Patriotic Fund. It was decided to prohibit householders from hosing their lawns. Several councillors gave instances of a widespread wastage of water. It was stated that in many cases water from hoses was allowed to run ouc on to footpaths. The matter of imposing other restrictions was. left in the hands of the engineer. Appreciation of the Masterton. County Council’s co-operative action in contributing £4O towards Home Guard and E.P.S. expenses was expressed. It was decided to rope off Queen. Street against the entry of motor traffic on Christmas Eve and on New Year’s Eve, from 7.30 to 10.30 p.m. Councillor White, referring to the installation of cycle racks in Queen Street, complimented the engineer, Mr Mabson, on the splendid job he had made. Councillor White said that the racks were the best of their kind he had yet seen. Christmas greetings were received, and reciprocated from the Masterton County Council. The meeting concluded with an interchange of seasonal greetings.
