Mr and Mrs W. A. Todd, Lansdowne, have returned from a visit to Paraparaumu Beach.

Mrs Nicholls and family, Waikaremoana, are staying with Mrs E. E. Horner, Essex Street, Master ton. The Misses Morrison, Lansdowne, who have been visiting Napier have returned home.

Mrs P. Fraser, wife of the Prime Minister, was admitted to Lewisham Hospital’ yesterday suffering from the after-effects of a severe attack of influenza.

The death has occurred in Christchurch' of Mrs Mary Bickerton, who was the widow of the late Professor A. W. Bickerton, the well-known scientist, and was his second wife.

At a dance held in the Kaiparoro Hall, Miss M. McAnulty, who has been selected for V.A.D. work overseas, was the guest of honour. There was a large attendance and the music for the dancing was supplied by JVIr Barnes’s orchestra. Speaking on behalf of the residents, Mr F. Parry extended good wishes to Miss McAnulty and presented her with a watch. Cigarettes were given to men present in uniform. Miss McAnulty suitably returned thanks.

The death has occurred in Sydney of Mrs Maud Russell (nee Hewson), wife of Mr Albert Russell. Mrs Russell came to New Zealand in one of the last of the passenger sailing ships, and for many years took a prominent part in the musical life of the country. As Maud Hewson, she was a member of Pollard’s Juvenile Opera Company, with which she toured New Zealand and Australia. As’ a producer for amateur operatic societies, she was well known in Palmerston North and Blenheim in later years. Mrs Russell, who is well known to old theatregoers in Masterton where she appeared on several occasions, is survived by her husband and by her daughter, Mrs T. M. Hinkley (Wellington).
