The death occurred at Auckland yesterday of Mr John Hunt, father of Mrs F. J. Parker, of the Lower Hutt, and formerly of Masterton, at the age of 82 years.
Mr Matthew Cable, general manager of the Wellington tramways and electricity department, will shortly retire after 35 years’ service with the Wellington City Council. The death has occurred in Hastings of Mr Joseph Samuel Sheffield, a wellknown resident. Born in Gretts Green, 1 England, Mr Sheffield arrived in New Zealand 32 years ago, and had lived in Hastings practically ever since. For a number of years he was secretary of Hastings Bakery Ltd., and later was in business on his own account. He was prominently associated with the Labour movement, and at the time of his death he was secretary of the Hastings branch of the Labour Party.
