STATE THEATRE
“NEW WINE.’’
The Gloria Pictures production “New Wine,” which will be shown tonight at the State Theatre, tells a sparkling story of the early days of the immortal Franz Schubert in Vienna, a city once gay with song and music and romance. Preeminent in a strong cast is beautiful Ilona Massey, who gained popularity for her clever translation of her part in "Balalaika.” The story pictures the days when the young composer, who was to become the greatest genius of his age, flees to Austria and there meets Anna, a beautiful girl who is in charge of a ranch belonging to a rich countess. The manner of their return to Vienna to seek the aid of the great Beethoven and the unexpected climax to a stirring romance, provide “New Wine” with all the components of a thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable motion picture. Ilona Massey gives a high-class, interpretation of such famous melodies as “Serenade,” “Ave Maria,” “Impatience” and “Hark, Hark, the Lark.” Another attraction is the singing of the St. Luke’s Choristers. Alan Curtis has the part of Franz Schubert.
