SOVIET PLANS
NO FRONT AGAINST JAPAN AT PRESENT DESIRE TO CONCENTRATE ON GERMANY. ALL IN THE SAME BOAT. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) NEW YORK, December 13. According to the Washington correspondent of the “New York Times” the new Soviet Ambassador to the United States, M. Litviriov, indicated at a Press conference that Russia' intends to concentrate on her war effort in Europe to smash Hitler, but does not intend to open a second front against Japan at present. He added: “I do not know whether Russia will sever diplomatic relations with Japan.
“It must be plain even to babes that the war now sweeping the world is the result of a vast conspiracy by the international gangsters calling themselves the Axis Powers,” said M. Litvinov. He added that Japan was a common enemy belonging to the same bunch of Axis gangsters. He explained that the sectors in which the great Powers fighting aggression should concentrate their strength must be ruled solely by the interests of the common cause.
“We are all in the same boat and must crash or triumph together over the greatest menace of our times, and we will triumph,” M. Litvinov declared. “The Soviet has no intention of allowing Hitler to hibernate. We intend to smash at Hitler till the break up of his monstrous machine. We feel that no one can do this for us or without us, and we will fight to the end.” M. Litvinov told the Press in Washington today that complete understanding exists, or will be arrived at, between the Powers opposing the Axis. The Moscow “Pravda” says: “Hitler is already putting out peace feelers to Russia, but the only peace we will consider is one reached in agreement with Britain and America. The present requisite for peace is the liquidation of Hitler and his criminals.” It is explained in New York that the statement by the Kuibyshev spokesman on Thursday merely means that a German peace feeler has been put out and rejected by the Soviet, which will make peace .only with_ Anglo-Am-erican agreement.
