ANNIVERSARY SERVICE
WHATMAN HOME GATHERING. LARGE ATTENDANCES RECORDED. Services to mark the sixteenth anniversary of the opening of Whatman Home, Masterton, held at the Home over the weekend were largely attended. Bright and interesting programmes were presented by the children on Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon. Included among those present were Brigadier and Mrs Bracegirdle, Wellington (deputising for Lt. Commissioner and Mrs J. Evan Smith, Territorial commanders), and Mr J. Robertson, M.P. The celebrations commenced with a tea on Saturday night when district officers and friends were present. Greetings were received from the Commissioner, Major- and Mrs Ericson (formerly in charge of the Home), and Mr S. Mason (formerly of the local corps). At 7.30 a splendid programme was presented by the children to a packed house. Included among the items were verse-speaking, scripture recitations, songs, rod drill, Egyptian balances, floor exercises, sketches, pyramids, etc., by the senior and junior children. Following a service yesterday morning, another programme was presented by ’the children. Mrs Bracegirdle presented the prizes won during the year.
