Mr D. C. Pryor, of Martinborough, has been appointed headmaster at the Pahiatua school.

Mrs M. Hislop has been appointed sole teacher at the Tiraumea school. This is a Avar appointment. The Rev. C. Solomon and Mrs Solomon, and Dr. E. E. Porritt, Wanganui, are visiting Mr and Mrs A. Keir, Lansdowne.

Mr G. K. Claris, of the staff of the Matahiwi school, has been appointed to the position of sole teacher at the Parkvale School.

Mr G. Grey Campbell and Mr Douglas Robb have t been appointed Auckland University College representatives on the board of governors of Massey Agricultural College. Mr John Philp, deputy-superinten-dent of the Wellington City Fire Brigade, was yesterday appointed superintendent of the Invercargill brigade by the Invercargill Fire Board, says a Press Association telegram There were 16 applicants.

Major A. A. McLachlan, who has been camp commandant at the Whangarei Territorial camp, has been transferred to the area office at Whangarei as area staff officer. Captain T. Bassett, who has been acting-area staff officer, has taken over the camp command.

There was a representative attendance at the funeral yesterday afternoon of the late Mr Arthur Pond, of Masterton. The service at the chapel and that at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. H. S. Kings. Among the wreaths was one from the Custodian and Park staff. Messrs G. Hyde, B. Braggins, T. O’Connor, P. Buckley, H. E. Gardner and F. Knowles were the pall-bearers. The death occurred in Wellington on Tuesday of Mr Frederick Herring, well known in the land and estate business. Mr Herring was for some years in the employ of J. Fanning and Co., and more recently was associated with the land and estate business of Benge and Calvert, Wellington. He was a brother of the Rev Father Herring, S.M., of Sydney, formerly of Wellington, and Mrs M. J. Kennedy, Island Bay. The interment took place at Palmerston North.
