ALFREDTON
f WOMEN’S INSTITUTE WINNERS OF COMPETITIONS. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute the attendance was very small, this being a busy period on the farms.
A competition, naming the articles in a tobacco tin, was won by Mrs Yarrall with Mrs Walker second. Mrs Hull made a presentation to Mrs McKay who is leaving the district. Mrs McKay also received a lovely shoulder spray made by one of the members. The competitions resulted as follows: —Knitting, balaclava: Mrs Yarrall, 1; pullover, Mrs J. McKay, 1; scarf, Mrs E. McLean, 1; mittens, Mrs E. Hutchings, 1. Best bloom: Mrs O. Walker, 1; Mrs A. Weston, 2;. Mrs Seymour, 3. The hostesses were Mesdames Dickens and Stone-Wigg. Personal Items. Sister C. George, of the Hastings Hospital staff, is visiting her mother, Mrs E. George. Mrs W. Brannigan has received a letter from her son, Athol, who is a prisoner of war, stating that he is fit and well; Corporal T. Hartley is to be entertained at a social gathering on Saturday. Mr and Mrs A. Hansen have left to take up their residence at Lower Hutt.
