Mr S. G. Holland, Christchurch, Leader of the Opposition, arrived at Wellington yesterday. Mrs E. A. Eastwood, 51 Villa Street, Master ton, has received word that hei husband, Pte. E. A. Eastwood, has been wounded in action in Libya. The Rev G. P. Cook, who has been assistant curate at the Cathedral Church of St Paul, Wellington, is to take over the parish of MangatainokaPongaroa.
Mr David Ferguson, Wellington, has been appointed a member of the Diocesan Board of Trustees in the place of Mr J. H. Luxford, S.M., who has gone to Auckland. At last night's meeting of the Masterton County Council a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr Francis O’Toole, an ex-employee of the council. Mr J. F. Donnelly, of the Masterton Post Office staff, who has been transferred to Gisborne, left Masterton on Monday last. Pending the appointment of a successor Mr E. J. Burke is acting in charge of the telegraph branch. Mr W. A. Stewart, a member of the staff of the Education Department, was yesterday appointed secretary of the Wellington Colleges Board in succession to Mr G. L. Judd, actingsecretary, who recently resigned. Among those reported missing in connection with the Middle East campaign is Private Rayfield Charles Foster, formerly of the staffs of the “Wairarapa Daily Times” and the “Wairarapa Times-Age.” A brother, Mr Pat Foster, resides at Mauriceville West. Appointments to the Wairarapa group of the Home Guard have been gazetted as follow: H. Mackenzie Douglas to be captain (temporary), assistant group adjutant; W. H. Saunders to be captain (temporary), assistant group quartermaster; J. D. O’Connor to be captain (temporary) group signals officer.
