MARTINBOROUGH

BOROUGH COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Martinborough Borough Council was held last night, when there were present the Mayor (Mr C. R. Holmes), and Councillors C. W. Skill, W. H. Corfield, F. Gray, L. G. Sievers, W. J. Blissett, T. A. Hamilton, M. N. Hardie and H. T. Parsons. Leave of absence was granted to Cr M. Mulvaney. Mr W. Smith wrote tendering his resignation as ranger. It was resolved that Mr Smith be asked to continue as ranger until another appointment had been made. Mr C. R. Foreman notified that he had transferred his lease of the pictures to Mr G. P. Cotter. Cr G. P. Cotter tendered his resignation as a member of the council. The resignation was accepted. Mr F. Malnick was given permission to remove a building from one section in Venice Street to another in the same street. Accounts amounting to £590 were passed for payment.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE DYERVILLE MEETING. A well-attended, meeting of the Dyerville Women’s Institute was held in the Dyerville Hall, when a number of children were entertained. Several letters were received from soldiers expressing thanks for parcels received from the Institute. Mrs A. Jamieson vzas presented with a “Good Service” badge and a posy. SWIMMING CLUB At a night meeting of the local Swimming Club the events resulted as follows: —Men’s race, L. Turner 1, P. Craig 2. Boys’ race (under 15 years of age), F. Mills 1, J. Turner 2, J. Theobald 3. Girls’ 331yds race: M. Chapman 1, P. Lynch 2, R. Wright 3. Girls' 50yds race: M. Chapman 1, R. Wright 2, P. Lynch 3. Diving: J. Turner and F. Mills (equal) 1. Plunge: L. Turner 1. Men’s 33 l-3yds race: D. Duffy and L. Turner, dead heat, 1. Boys’ dive: F. Mills 1, J. Theobald 2. Presentations to Soldiers. At a largely-attended dance in the Town Hall presentations were made to the following local soldiers: —Sergt. Taylor, Corporal Spooner, Leading Aircraftman Hamilton, Privates Hume, Charteris, Aitchison, Grant and Fenwick. Privates Ronald, Sarra and Dromgool, who recently returned from overseas, were also the recipients of gifts.
