TRUST AFFAIRS

BUSINESS AT LAST NIGHT’S MEETING. USE OF MEMORIAL COURTS. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Trust Lands Trust was held last night. There were present Messrs H. P-. Hugo (chairman), J. Macfarlane Laing, A. O. Jones, C. E. Grey, R. Krahagen. E. G. Eton, H. H. Daniell. An apology for absence was received Jrom Messrs Russell and R. Page. Members were invited to attend the annual break-up function of Wairarapa College on Monday, December 15. “The condition of the grandstand at Memorial Park' is shocking,” said Mr Krahagen, who added that birds had made the stand very dirty. He thought something should be done to have it cleaned up. Members agreed that the stand should be attended to. The Wairarapa College Board of Governors wrote applying for an additional grant, if circumstances permitted, for the salary of a full time library supervisor. It was decided to hold over the matter until the estimates were considered. The Boy Scouts’ Association was given the use of Memorial Park on Saturday, March 21, 1942. It was agreed to advise the association that it had no objections but the matter would have to be referred to the Wairarapa Rugby Union. The Trust refused a request by the United Tennis Club for the remission of rent in ■ respect to the Memorial courts for the duration of the war. The view expressed by several Trust members was that the Trust should not be asked to meet the liability of the Masterton Tennis dub, a private body, with which the United Club was now amalgamated, though it was agreed that the action of the two clubs in combining was commendable. It was pointed out that only £l2 per year was paid as the rental for the Memorial courts. It was decided that the Trust office observe the same holidays as the legal offices and that no meeting be held in January unless the chairman considered it necessary. The treasurer reported credit balances as follow: No. 1 Account, £7lB 8s; No. 2 Account, £67 7s 6d; No. 3 Account, £3l 14s sd. Accounts totalling £42 13s 8d were passed. The chairman wished members the compliments of the season. Mr Eton replied on behalf of the Trustees.
