LADY GALWAY GUILD

WORK OF LOCAL BRANCH. CLOTHING FOR GREAT BRITAIN. Now that the work of the local, branch of the New Zealand Lady Galway Patriotic Guild has come to an end as far as this year’s operations are concerned, it is opportune to extend to all those who have assisted in this war effort the grateful thanks of the committee, whose efforts are dependent upon contributions, from the public of both clothing and materials. The response has been very gratifying and made it possible for forty-three cases of clothing, etc., to be sent, from Mas-, terton for ultimate despatch to Great Britain for the use of war sufferers there. These cases, which have been assembled over a period of eighteen months, contained in all 6,581 articles and give some idea of the magnitude of the task undertaken by the ladies of the committee.. As every garment sent away has to be in first class condition it will be realised what a great deal of work is necessitated in reconditioning them. It will be of interest to those who have assisted this movement to know that letters of gratitude are being regularly received from the organisations handling the clothing in England, and there is no doubt that the shipments from this country are filling a great need. Apart from a few articles yet to made up everything has been got away. When members of the Guild resume work after the Christmas recess, it will be necessary to again appeal to the public for further donations to enable the work to be carried on, and it is earnestly hoped that the support accorded the Guild in the past will again be forthcoming.
