The Hon R. Semple, Minister of National Service, returned to Wellington today from the South Island. The Hon J. G. Barclay, Minister of Marketing, returned to Wellington yesterday from the north. The death has occurred at Palmerston North of Mr W. Mouldey, a former city councillor, at the age of 70 years. The death has occurred of Mr Arthur Ernest Lenriard, aged 61, a well-known farmer and sportsman of Waihou. In recent years he bred and raced successfully Lucy Rose, Gay Rose, and Lou Rosa. Mr Lennard leaves a wife, two sons, and two daughters. He served in the Boer War. Mr A. Chambers, formerly of the Mauriceville district, who died recently at Pahiatua, resided at one time in Masterton. He was a son of the late Captain Chambers, of Wellington, and served in the South African War, enlisting at Masterton. Ke was a well known footballer, having played in the old Te Ore Ore senior team, and for the Masterton Club. The funeral of the late Mr G. D. Oakly, of River Road, Masterton, took place yesterday afternoon, the service at the residence and that at the graveside being conducted by the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich. There was a representative attendance of mourners. Wreaths were sent by the Mayor, Councillors and staff of the Masterton Borough Council, the Masterton Park staff, Messrs Levin and Co., Ltd., and Messrs Whiteman Bros., Ltd., besides others. The pall-bearers were: Messrs R., A., Henry, Harold and T. Oakly (sons), and D. J. Brogden (son-in-law).
Canon Alfred Neild died in the Napier Public Hospital yesterday following a short illness. Born at Bowden, Cheshire, England, in 1865, he was educated at Cambridge. He came to New Zealand in 1U97 and was appointed vicar of Ashhurst. In 1906 he was inducted vicar of St Mary’s, Dunedin, in the following year being appointed archdeacon of Dunedin. This charge he held till 1913. He was then appointed secretary of the Melanesian Missions, a position he held till 1917, when he became principal of the Theological College for Maoris, Gisborne, in 1920. In 1922 he was appointed chaplain of Te Aute College This position he held for 11 years till his appointment as assistant priest in the cathedral parish.
