MASTERTON WEST SCHOOL
DANCE AND CARD PARTY. SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. A highly successful dance and card party was held at the Masterton West School bn Saturday night by the Masterton West Home and School Association, there being a large attendance. The gathering was excellently managed, and special attention was paid to the welfare of the visitors. Both at the dance and in connection with the cards the arrangements were carried out promptly, and in a manner which reflected the greatest credit on those concerned. Visitors expressed themselves in terms of high praise in regard to the school building, with its splendid hall, ventilation system and general surroundings, it being considered by them the best that they had seen.
Mr A. Barnes (pianist) and Mr S. Taylor (violinist) supplied the music for the dancing and assisted materially in the enjoyment of the dancers. Mr B. Filer played extras. Mr Esler was an efficient M.C. / The winners at bridge were Mrs J. Hair (ladies) and Mr V. Joseph (men), the consolation prizes going to Mrs V. Welch (ladies) and Mr B. Iveson (men). In the 500 the winners were: Ladies, Mrs Wilson (first) and Mrs Baikie (consolation); men, Mr J. Clarke (first), and Mr Griffiths (consolation). Mrs F. Shearer was in charge of the card room.
At the conclusion of the gathering, Mr V. Burridge (chairman of the executive committee) spoke in the dance hall, and thanked those present for their attendance. In the card room, Mr F. Shearer referred to the amount of work carried out by the executive committee in order to bring about the success of the gathering that night. The executive committee extends its thanks to the' donors of the card prizes and cakes. The executive will meet at the Masterton West School on Tuesday next at 7.45 p.m.
