CARTERTON

BOWLING BOOTH CUP AND SHIELD, (“Times-Age” Special.) Carterton Booth Cup teams were beaten on the Martinborough green on Saturday, but Carterton Shield team had a win. Heavy rain fell throughout Friday night and early on Saturday making the green very heavy. The following were the results (Martinborough players mentioned first in each case): —

Booth Cup: Martin, Budd, Boyd, Knell (s) beat Newbould, McCarty, Hughan, Sorensen (s), 23/17; Craig, Green, Larsen, Yates (s), beat A. Thompson, Bain, DeLacey, Harrington (s), 18/16. Shield: Baker, Johns, Casely, Beveridge (s), lost to Colson, Compton, Curtis, Stent (s), 19/20. A number of games were played on the Carterton green on Saturday and some interesting play was witnessed. The Ladies’ Club also had a very enjoyable afternoon’s play.

About 18 sets of bowls belonging to members of the Carterton Club will be taken for testing and stamping purposes on the Wellington Club’s green on Tuesday by the official bowl tester.

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE SUCCESSFUL DANCE. A successful dance was held at Dale; field Hall on Saturday evening under the auspices of the Matarawa-Dale-field Women’s Institute. There was a very large attendance and a most enjoyable time was spent. Excellent music was supplied by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra. Much appreciated extras were played by Miss V. Irwin and Mr Hemi. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Davidson and Mr H. Cadwallader. Mr V. J. Ashton was an efficient M.C. and a supper supplied by the Institute ladies was greatly enjoyed. Bank Holiday. St. Andrew z 's Day is being celebrated today and the Carterton banks are observing a holiday. Personal Items. Major Grice, of the Salvation Army, will visit Carterton on December 15. ' S.M. Court. The monthly sitting of the Carterton Magistrate’s Court will be held on Wednesday.
