BISHOP OF AOTEAROA

ADDRESS AT ST. MATTHEW’S LAST NIGHT. REVIVAL AMONGST MAORI PEOPLE. In the course of a stirring address on Maori missions given at St. Matthew’s Church last night, the Right Rev. F. A. Bennett, Bishop of Aotearoa, said four things were in his mind that day. First, it was Mr Churchill’s birthday. In everybody’s thoughts, Mr Churchill summed up in himself the qualities of the British race. No one could doubt, said the Bishop, that Mr Churchill had been raised by God to serve the Empire in this, hour of trial. Bishop Bennett went on to say that that day. was the anniversary of his own consecration as bishop and that it was the beginning of another Christian year—Advent Sunday. Proceeding to speak about Maori missions, Bishop Bennett referred to the spirit of revival manifest amongst Maori people and quoted letters he had received from Maori soldiers overseas, showing their grasp of the spiritual issues involved in the war.
