FIRE FIGHTING
GREATER VOLUME OF WATER AVAILABLE. RESULT OF RELINING MAINS. A considerable improvement in the quantity of water available for fire fighting in Queen Street is reported by the Superintendent of the Masterton Brigade, Mr T. B. Clark, as the result of the concrete lining' of the water mains from, 'the reservoir to the borough and of those in the central portion of the town.
In 1939, before the relining was put in hand, tests in Queen Street carried out by the brigade showed that 334 gallons of water per minute were, available for fire fighting and this was the maximum amount that could be obtained. This year, following the relining, a similar test showed that 997 gallons per minute were available This represents an improvement of about 200 per cent. It is of interest to note that the Borough Engineer, Mr C. R. Mabson, is taking tests throughout the summer and when these are completed he will make a comprehensive report to the borough council concerning all phases of the concrete relining project.
