ESSENTIAL SECTORS
THREATENED BY ENEMY ONSLAUGHT BUT STRAIN MUST BE BORNE. MOSCOW PRESS COMMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, November 28. The Moscow “Pravda” says the situation has become more serious, and that north and south the onslaught threatens some of the most essential sectors of the capital’s defences. The German claim to have captured Klin, 50 miles from Moscow, is not confirmed.
“Pravda” speaks of the grave and fateful hour of the capital, and says it is necessary to increase ten-fold the determination of the defenders. Before the news bulletin was read tonight, Moscow radio broadcast a message to the Russian forces as follows: “Moscow is dear to us. We shall never let the enemy take Moscow. We will fight to the bitter end. We shall not retreat; we cannot retreat. Behind us stands Moscow.”
In a further message ■to Russian officers, the broadcast said that every hour and every day the struggle for Moscow was growing more and more stern. The situation was especially strained and difficult, but they could and they must bear the strain.
