NAZI CONTROL
OVER FRENCH MERCANTILE MARINE. EXTENDED TO SMALLEST VESSELS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 25. Further evidence of the complete domination of. the French mercantile marine by the Germans was found by the discovery on board a French fishing vessel of German authorisation for it to sail. The fishing vessel was boarded by one of H.M. ships, and the German authorisation in the master’s possession was found to include the stipulation that the boat should return within four months. Failure to do so would entail the forfeit of 20,000 francs deposited at the port of sailing. It was further stipulated that the crew should return at the time stated under threat of reprisals against, their families.
The Ministry of Economic Warfare states that control of the French mercantile marine extends to the smallest vessels of the French fishing fleet. It is stated that 65 per cent of all catches go straight to Paris.
