ALLOWANCES TO SOLDIERS
SOME INCREASES ANNOUNCED. REPRESENTATIONS RECENTLY MADE. The mufti allowance to soldiers has been increased from £7 10s to £l2 10s and provision has been made* to allow for a Christmas remittance of £5 to be sent to soldiers overseas, additional to the yearly allowance. Advice to this effect has been received by the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, following representations made to the Government by the National Patriotic Advisory Council. The council asked for the mufti allowance to be increased to £l5 and also that the remittance permitted to be sent to soldiers overseas should be increased from £3O to £5O per year. Requests were also made to make the mufti allowance available to men on home defence duties in New Zealand and to make canteen coupons available in New Zealand for sending to men overseas. These matters are still under consideration. ,
