EKETAHUNA
GOLD STAR PRESENTED TO MEMBER OF FIRE BRIGADE. (“Times-Age” Special.) To mark the completion of 25 years as a member of the Eketahuna Fire Brigade Secretary S. Daniel was entertained at a social gathering on Saturday night. There was a large attendance including Brigadesmen from Waipukurau, Featherston, Greytown, Carterton, Pahiatua and Woodville. Supt. H. Rogers presided and from start to finish the proceedings proved most enjoyable. A lengthy toast list was honoured. Interspersed with the various toasts were enjoyable items given by Messrs J. H. Baillie, F. Robinson, McGregor, B. McAlister, T. Hooper, R. Walters, H. Dearie. The concert orchestra also rendered several numbers.
The presentation of the Gold Star to Secretarl Daniel was made by Supt. Rogers. During the past nine years Mr Daniel had held the office of Secretary and a more suitable man for the position would be difficult to obtain. Mrs Daniel also had proved a firm friend. to the Brigade for a lengthy period of years. Opportunity was then taken by the Mayor, Mr W. Olsen, to present the Secretary with a handsome chhia cabinet on behalf of the businessmen of Eketahuna who, Mr Olsen stated, were fully aware of the splendid work rendered by members of the local brigade. Mr Daniel suitably replied. Other toasts honoured were: The Eketahuna Borough Council (proposed by Mr N. P. Williams, replied to by the Mayor); United Fire Brigades’ Association (Supt. Boston, of Featherston —Mr H. E. Greathead); United District Fire Brigades Association (Act-ing-Supt. J. Churchouse, Carterton — Supt. W. Lawry, Pahiatua); Our Visitors (Deputy Supt. H. Daniel —members of the brigades present); Firemen on active service (Mr P. S. Page—Gunner G. Dickson); Friendly Societies (Fireman J. Charles, Woodville —Messrs O. Walton, J. V/. Baillie and B. Dinnan); Eketahuna Fire Brigade (Foreman Annand, Waipukurau—Supt. H. Rogers); Gold Star members (Mr C. Parsons —Gold Star members present); Life and Honorary members (Fireman J. Finn —Messrs L. Eagle, H. Eagle and R. Holford); The Ladies (Mr B. Mountjoy—Fireman H. Gyde).
