SOUTH FEATHERSTON
PATRIOTIC EFFORT DANCE AND EUCHRE PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at the euchre party and dance held in the South Featherston Hall by the War Service Committee. Udy’s Orchestra provided the music for the dancing and Mr Mclntosh played extras. The Monte Carlo waltzes were won by Mr R. Eton and partner, and Mr A. Chisholm and partner. Mr H. Graham was M.C.
The card prizes were won as follows: Ladies, Mrs Worsley 1, Mrs Fuge 2; men, Mr J. Thompson 1, Mr Ashworth 2.
A sucking pig donated by Mr Benton was won by Mr H. W. Willis. Cash donations were received from Mrs J. Jepson £l, Mr C. M. Bain 10s, Mr Cromb ss. CALVES AND LAMBS COMPETITION RESULTS. The children’s calf and lamb competitions were held at the South Featherston school ground on Saturday, there being-13 calves and 19 lambs. Mr D. Stuart, the judge, said that the calves were the best line he had judged. The children, he said, were to be complimented on the manner in which they handled their calves. He was surprised to see such a large, well contested class of lambs in a dairy district. The exhibits showed an improvement in quality and condition on those of the previous year. A fat lamb buyer, he said, would be pleased with the whole line. The following were the awards:— Calves. ' Ayrshire class, type: Maureen Guthrie 1; Lola Blandford 2; Norma Blandford 3. Handling: Janice Mclvor 1: Norma Blandford 2; Lola Blandford 3. Crossbred class, type: Marie Burt 1; Rex Leighton 2; Ray Burt 3. Mr J. G. Donald’s special prize: Maureen Guthrie. Handling: Gordon Burt 1; Ray Burt 2; Rex Leighton 3. Jersey class, type: Raymond Snell 1; Paddy Rendall 2; Trevor Snell 3. Handling: Billy Sorensen 1; Desmond Willis 2; Trevor Snell 3. Lambs.
Longwool lambs, weight and condition: Gordon Leighton 1; Ray Burt 2; Ann Willis 3. Handling: Ann Willis 1; Desmond Willis 2; Gordon Leighton 3. Shortwool lambs, weight and condition: Doris Blandford 1; Mary Blandford 2; Beverly Burt 3. Handling: Barbara Sorensen 1; Graeme Robertson 2; Phyllis Robertson 3. The school children also held a shop day which realised £2.' 13s 3d. This sum is to be handed to the Featherston Red Cross Society.
The competitions resulted as follows: Cake donated by Mrs A., Robertson, Lorna Simmonds, South Featherston. Duchess Set: Miss B. Gregor. Chocolates: Marie Burt and Ronald George, Carterton. Personal. Mr and Mrs G. Dent, of Wellington, spent the weekend.with Mrs A. Clark, South Featherston. War Service Committee. A meeting of the South Featherston War Service Committee was held in the South Featherston Hall when there was an attendance of twenty-six. It was resolved to hold a euchre party and dance, the proceeds to go to the war service funds. Twenty-six Christmas cards were autographed by those present and posted to the soldiers overseas. ■
