CARTERTON

ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The quarterly meeting of the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge of Odd Fellows was held last evening, P.G. Bro., H. J. Rathbone presiding. Sick pay amounting to £6 10s and other .accounts including the remittance of contributions to sister lodges and increased funeral fund contributions to the District, were passed for payment. Bro. Sparks, of Hukanui, forwarded a doctor’s certificate notifying that he was still unfit for work. Bro. P. R. Chaplin, of the Second •N.Z.EF., Middle East, wrote stating he had seen active service in Greece and Crete and had been invalided from both places. He was at the time of writing in a hospital at Cairo, but was doing well. He gave an account of both engagements and sent the season’s greetings to members of Heart of Oak Lodge. The secretary said he had replied to the letter and reciprocated the good wishes. The election of officers resulted as follows: N.G., P.G. Sister K. Mitchell; V.G., P.G. Sister Mellish; Elective Secretary, P.G. Bro. G. S. Bruce; Lecture Master, P.D.G.M. Bro. C. J. DeLacey.

It was resolved that the installation of officers take place at the next meeting and that Loyal Masterton Lodge members be invited to attend. BOWLING CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW. The following is the -second draw for the Carterton Bowling Club’s champion singles competition:—Martin v Barber, Stent v G. W. Hart, Callender v Newbould, Sorensen v Harrington, Whyte v G. Steven, Hughan v Clark, Curtis v Beaven, Larsen v Barr, A, Thompson v Kilmister. Boy Scout's. Twenty members of the Carterton Boy Scouts troop journeyed to Greytown last evening and spent a very enjoyable time at the Scout Den, Greytown, with the local Scouts. The boys were in charge of Scoutmaster Fairbrother. The visitors were entertained at supper. Motor Car Case. David Slason was charged before Messrs W. C. M. Sorensen and P. A. Cole, J.P’s. at the Carterton S.M. Court this morning that on November 24 at Carterton he did unlawfully and without the colour of right, but not so ; as to be guilty of "theft within the meaning, of the Crimes Act, 1908, con- - Vert to his own use a motor car valued * :: at £2OO, the property of Edward ■ Benge. ’ Accused was represented by Mr D. L. Taverner, who entered a plea ”of not guilty. Accused was remanded to appear at the S.M. Court on December 3, bail being allowed. Gymnastic Display. There was a large attendance of parents at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Hall last evening when a -gymnastic display was given by Mrs G. S. Bruce s pupils. The children went through their various drills with credit to themselves and their teacher and were 'warmly applauded. Miss V. Sorensen presided at the piano and Mrs H. B. Keenan assisted with the dressing. A collection taken up at the door will go toward the purchase of equipment for the class. At the conclusion of the entertainment, the instructress, Mrs Bruce, and the children were congratulated on their work. Cheese and Wool. Very large consignments of cheese and wool continue to be sent away from the Carterton railway station. Shearing is in full swing in the Gladstone district, some sheds having been “cut out.”
