WOMEN’S DIVISION MEETING AT PAHAUTEA. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Pahautea Hall yesterday afternoon, Mrs Ross presiding over a good attendance of members and visitors, the latter including Mesdames Groves and Gawith, of Masterton. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Wakely, C. Pearce, Pope, McKenna and Farquhar. It was decided to send four more parcels overseas to local soldiers, making a total of 19 Christmas parcels so far forwarded. It was stated that a parcel had been despatched to the Makogai Leper Fund and also a cash donation. Mrs Gawith gave a very interesting demonstration on spinning. A bring-and-buy stall resulted in £3 being obtained for branch funds. Shoulder sprays were presented to Mesdames Gawith, Groves and Ross. Afternoon tea was provided. (Social Gathering. A very successful social gathering was held in the Kahutara Hall last evening, there being a good attendance of settlers from Pahautea and Kahutara. Musical items were given by Mrs Connell, Mrs Feast and Mr Allen and much enjoyed Piper Stalker played several items on the bagpipes which were much appreciated. The Rev. J. R. Higgs gaves a veryinteresting talk on “China of Today.” Mr D. C. Collins thanked Mr Higgs for his address which had been greatly appreciated. He also expressed the thanks of the Red Cross Society for the donation of half the collection.
