GREYTOWN
DISTRICT HIGH SCHOOL MEETING OF COMMITTEE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee tvas held on Tuesday evening. There were present, Messrs H. ' G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes (treasurer), W. Grigg, R. O’Neale, J. Morison, E. Galyer, Mrs Knell and the headmaster, Mr S. C. Shedden. The Wellington Education Board notified that Miss J. F. Oxford had been appointed to the school staff in succession to Miss D. Tully. The headmaster reported as follow: — The present roll numbers are: Primary, 304; secondary, 31. The primary roll is the highest for some years. Advice had been received that there would be an examination centre at Greytown for public service entrance and matriculation examinations. The Education Board wrote stating that grants for incidental expenses would be paid monthly instead of each term. The judging of the calves and lambs is to take place on December 2. Mr V. Gates is to be asked to judge the calves and Mr A. D. Burch the lambs. The school visitors reported that the grounds were in good order. Messrs W. Grigg and E. J. Galyer were appointed school visitors for the month. Bowling. A rink from Carterton (Messrs A. Thompson, R. Thompson, F. Harrington and G. Riggs) played a match yesterday against the Greytown team (Messrs G. Brunton, F. Dennes, N. McLeod, and W. Higgison) holders of the centre fours badges. Greytown secured a good lead early in the game ahd obtained a comfortable win. The following will represent Greytown against Carterton in the Booth Cup and Shield games to be played on Saturday:—G. Brunton, G. Burns, P. Kenning, N. McLeod (s); Connolly, S. C. Shedden, W. Kilgour, W. Higgison (s); H. R. Feast, E. Skeet, J. Kiernan,. F. Dennes (s). A Nuisance Alleged. Mr F. C. Bunny stated at the monthly meeting of the executive committee of the "Wairarapa Automobile Association that although the association had written to the Greytown Borough Council in regard to the danger arising from the growth of gorse and broom at the Papawai corner, nothing, had yet been done. It was decided that Mr Bunny wait upon the council and ask that the nuisance be abated.
