ON ITALIAN FORCES IN ABYSSINIA ARTILLERY AND PATROL ENCOUNTERS. EFFECTIVE AIR ATTACKS MADE BY SOUTH AFRICANS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.58 a.m.) RUGBY, November 11. A Nairobi communique states: “Our troops on November 7, advancing south, met with a heavy but ineffective artillery fire in the Kulkaber area. Our artillery on November 9 successfully shelled enemy gun positions in the Mabazzo, Larei and Dava sectors, silencing two batteries. Considerable enemy fire was drawn in return, but caused no casualties. Our patrols have continued the harassing of the enemy in all sectors. “The South African Air Force, operating in the Gondar area on Monday, machine-gunned enemy trenches at Sena. At Ambazzo, troops who had taken cover in trenches were attacked and huts and trenches were bombed. The pilots successfully paid special attention to a number of wellplaced enemy machine-gun posts. All our planes returned safely.”
