BOWLING

PARK CLUB RAIN INTERFERES WITH PLAY. A POPULAR INNOVATION. Once again the uncertainty of the weather affected the attendance of bowlers, and the eagerly awaited competition between mid-week and Saturday players was somewhat marred by the heavy downpour of rain, several of the games being unfinished. At this stage, the mid-week players were definitely on top, having won the two finalised games, and scored 102 points to their opponents’ 79. The innovation has proved very popular, and with the lengthening of the days and an improvement in the weather, there should be much useful practice indulged in, for the Saturday players are eager to have their revenge on some future occasion. Details of scores are as follow (mid-week players mentioned first in each case): —Whale, Jenkins, Kilgour (s) 13 v P. Smith, O’Donnell, Reader (s) 11; Hawke, Newton, Duckworth (s) 17, v Davis, Drummond, Dixcn (s) 18; Lee, Carr, Shearer (s) 20, v Leigh, Wallace, Fenton (s) 15; McKenzie, Wall, Macpherson, Osborne 24 v Trevorrow, Andrews, Thompson, H. Smith 19; Spackman, Moore, Braggins, E. Brown 28 v Wiltshire, Allan, Ferguson, Simpson 16. During the week, Trevorrow and Kilgour (s) staved off two challenges for* the Ferns, defeating Macpherson and Duckworth 25-17, and Shearer and Thompson 23-15. An outstanding feature of these games was the splendid leading of Trevorrow. On Thursday the holders will meet E. Brown and H. Smith.

The initial game to determine the holders of the Keetley Medals was played between C. Andrews and H. Smith, last season holders, who chose aS their leads G. Cooper and G. Brown respectively. G. Brown, last year’s junior champion, played splendid bowls, and was the determining factor in Smith’s victory. S. Lee and A. Kilgour have challenged the holders, who have arranged to play the game on Tuesday. Nominations for the championship games close on November 30, and it is proposed to commence the elimination' games the following week. All games will be played on the one life system, as was done last season. The Centre competitions will commence next Saturday, when Masterton will play the Park at the Park.
