CARTERTON
BOWLING CLUB GAMES STOPPED BY RAIN. (“Times-Age” Special.) Heavy rain set in on Saturday afternoon after eight or nine ends had been played by members of the Carterton Bowling Club and the contests I abandoned. Afternoon tea supplied by f the club, was presided over by Mesr dames F. L. Barr and L. J. Harris, to ! whom a hearty vote of thanks was accorded. The members of the ladies’ club had to abandon their games also owing to the rain. Those members who have not already entered for club competitions are asked to do so this week as entries close on Saturday next when the various draw for the competitions will be made by the match committee. Booth Cup and Duthie Shield fixtures will commence on Saturday next when Carterton will play Greytown at Greytown.
“PARCEL EVENING”
MISS HOOPER HONOURED.
The Dalefield Hall was filled on Saturday evening when the. residents tendered a “parcel evening” to Miss Isabel Hooper, who is shortly to be marriedThe music for dancing was provided by Mrs V. J. Ashton’s orchestra, and much appreciated extras were played by Miss Lorenzen and Mr Trevor Hooper. Mr M. J. Parker was M.C. During the evening Mr Parker referred to the approaching marriage of Miss Hooper and asked her to accept and open the many gift parcels. Mr R. Castles, on behalf of Miss Hooper, suitably, returned-thanks. A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss Jensen and Mr L. Sayer.
Gathering at Parkvale. Parkvale and district residents will entertain Sergt. Pilot C. C. Deller and Mrs Deller (nee Miss Eileen Talforth) at a “parcel evening” on Wednesday next at the Parkvale Hall. Mrs Ashton’s orchestra will provide the music. Territorials Return to Camp. A large number of Territorials who had been on weekend leave in Carterton, returned to the Waiouru Camp this afternoon. Dominion Dining Room. The Dominion Dining Room has reopened under the management of the Misses Regan, and a special feature of this establishment will be cleanliness and speed of service. Fish meals and grills at popular prices will be available, also cooked fish and other small goods to take away. The Dominion Dining Room has had extensive renovations in the kitchen, and all patrons are assured of getting first class service at all times.”
