. POLES IN ACTION OUTSIDE t TOBRUK I CASUALTIES INFLICTED ON , ENEMY. ’ FRONTIER RECONNAISSANCE. (British Official Wireless.) ' (Received This Day, 10.6 a.m.) ( I RUGBY, November 7. A Cairo communique states: “Enemy air activity at Tobruk was resumed yesterday, when hostile artillery was again more active. During the afternoon a Polish fighting patrol, under cover of strong artillery support, penetrated enemy positions opposite the western sector of our defences. After securing valuable information, the patrol was about to withdraw when it was engaged by a strong Italian detachment. Our patrol immediately counterattacked with grenades, inflicting a number of casualties on the Italians before forcing them to withdraw. One Polish private was wounded. “In the frontier area enemy artillery ineffectively shelled our patrol south of Halfaya, while to the west of this area armoured patrols were observed. Despite this activity, our patrols completed a full reconnaissance programme without interference.”
