WOOLSHED NEAR HAWARDEN.
SEVERAL HUNDRED SHEEP BURNT.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, November 5
Fire destroyed the woolshed 011 the Macdonald Downs station, near Hawarden, North Canterbury, and also about 700 hoggets which had been placed in the building overnight for shearing in the morning. The woolshed was one of the largest in North Canterbury, the Macdonald Downs flock being big, and the loss is severe just at the start of the shearing season. The property is owned by the estate of Mr G. L. Rutherford, who established one of the leading halfbred flocks of the province, which has been managed by his son, Mr B. G. Rutherford, since his father's death. The building was insured.
