ACREAGE IN GRAIN
ESTIMATE FOR SEASON.
SMALLER AREA FOR POTATOES

Estimates of the areas in New Zealand under wheat, oats, barley and potatoes for the 1941-42 season are published in last night’s Gazette. The actual areas sown last season arc also published. The total area in wheat last year was 245.733 acres, in oats 306,944 acres, and barley 41,088 acres. The estimated acreages in wheat for the coming season are: North Island, 6000 acres; South Island. 252,000 acres; total, 258,000 acres. Oats: North Island, 11,000 acres; South Island, 264,009 acres; total, 275,000 acres. Barley: North Island, 3500 acres; South Island, 41,500 acres; total, 45,000 acres. In the North Island last year the acreage in potatoes was 5352 acres, while the estimated acreage for the coming year is 5000 acres. In the South Island the acreage planted last season was 11,646 acres, with an estimate for the coming season of 10.800 acres, thus giving a total .of 16,998 acres planted last year, against an estimated total of 15,800 acres for the coming season.
