CARTERTON
SCOUT MOVEMENT MEETING OF CITIZENS’ COMMITTEE. ’ (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs Mellish (vice-president) presided over a meeting of the Citizens’ Committee of the Boy Scout movement .held in Carterton/last night. There r were also present Mrs Patterson, Miss F. Eagle (secretary), Messrs H. T. Ray, I A. Patterson, A. Adams, Fairbrother and C. J. DeLacey. Accounts amounting to 8s 5d were passed for payment. The Scoutmaster asked if the floor of the den could be finished at an early date to enable the gymnastic classes to be opened. He stated that to assist in putting the proposal into working order, a member of the Masterton Y.M.C.A. had generously volunteered to give his services for a, period. It was resolved that the matter be left in the hands of Mr Patterson, with power to act. Mr Fairbrother reported that it was intended to hold a Scout field day on Carrington Park on Saturday, December 20, when a sports meeting would be held, at the conclusion of which the boys would be entertained at tea at the residence of the Scoutmaster. Several members of the committee guar-, anteed to provide sandwiches for the occasion. Mr H. T. Ray reported a credit balance in connection with the weekly card parties amounting to over £4. The question of holding a special Christmas card party on December 16 was discussed and a small committee was appointed to canvas for prizes and to organise the gathering. Owing to the president having left the district, Mrs M. E. Mellish was elected president for the remainder of the term, and Mr A. Patterson vicepresident. The secretary gave an interesting account of the visit of the District Commissioner, Mr R. N. Barton, of Featherston, to a recent parade of the Cubs, when he presented Miss Eagle with her warrant as Cub Mistress. Assistant Scoutmaster Ray reported that 19 Scouts had visited Kaintagata Falls on Labour Day and enjoyed the outing. Mr Ray was granted three weeks’ leave of absence. Messrs Patterson and DeLacey were authorised to dispose of the roofing iyon from the rear of the Scout Den. r' It was resolved that an effort be X made to enrol honorary members to •’ the' Scout Committe at a fee of 2s 6d per annum. The next monthly meeting will be held on Thursday, December 4. (Church Services. A Church of England service will be held at Parkvale at 2 p.m. and at Ahiaruhe at 11 a.m. on Sunday next. Patriotic Dance. There should be a large gathering of residents of Belvedere and district at the dance in the Belvedere school tonight, the proceeds from which will be devoted to the soldiers’ comforts fund. Mr and Mrs H. Torrey, who are leaving the will be farewelled. Personal Items. Word has been received. from the Middle East that in the near future Sisters Jean Bond and Una Goodin, of Carterton, and Sister Palmer, of Longbush, would speak “over the air” to Carterton residents.
