Patriotic Bodies’ Conference.
A conference of patriotic bodies, comprising the National Advisory Council to the New Zealand Patriotic Fund Board, and Provincial Council representatives, will be held in Wellington on November 20, when requirements for the New Year will be considered.
Army Reserve Transport. A routine order issued by Captain D. B. Curry, officer commanding the Lines of Communication Motor Transport, Company No. 13, Wairarapa, states that all members from Pahiatua to Martinborough will assemble at the depot of Transport (Wairarapa), Ltd., on Sunday, November 9, at 9.50 a.m., and will proceed by motor convoy to Solway for a full day’s manoeuvres.
Suing for Fees. “Apparently there is some misconception regarding the right of doctors to sue for fees under the Social Security Amendment Act,” said the Minister of Health (Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer), at Dunedin last night. “The position, however, is perfectly clear. Doctors can sue for the amounts mentioned in the Act, that is, 7s 6d for day calls and 12s 6d for night and Sunday calls. Their righ't to sue is forfeited only insofar as they exceed the charges mentiohed. Parliament permitted the doctors to charge these amounts or a patient to collect them from the fund,, but it was felt that the amounts specified should be regarded as fair and reasonable remuneration, and that in any case the suing of a patient might destroy the very intimate relationship between doctor and patient.”
